Mercedes-Benz finally is bringing an open-bed pickup truck, dubbed the X-Class, to market. The bad news — it’s still a ways away from seeing streets, and even further away from seeing North American highways. If you’re stateside and you want a ‘Benz pickup, there is another way: modification. Look no further than the ‘Benz “Working Class” posted by Reddit user Kespatcho.
What appears to be a W204 C-Class Mercedes, the rear of the body shell has been sliced away, with a truck bed now in its place. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen someone shave away sheetmetal from a sedan — last year we saw an excellent M3 ‘ute conversion.
The steep depreciation curve of aging luxury cars might have opened a door that no one expected. Still, with a BMW and a ‘Benz out of the way, we’re looking at you, Audi fans, to complete the German luxe-sedan Australian ute conversion trifecta. We can’t think of anything cooler than a fleet of C63, M3 and RS4 conversion pickups.
Until then, we’ll just have to bask in the glory of the few custom pickups we’ve seen.
